@riahb234 ooo! this line is actually written as “ugly kind of reckoning”…but “bleak” would be cool too:) This is about finally realizing that things weren’t working despite intentional efforts to hold on and fix them. The experience really changed the way I think about relationships.

@burningstar4 In high school, I read a book called “Lean In” about women in the workplace (it’s pretty outdated lol). The phrase stuck in my writing. I love the image of shifting one’s weight towards something they want. It’s so human and understated.

@beesonyeah I feel like “lean in” or “leaning in” has shown up in a couple of your songs now! How did that become a beesonism?

@zachknell wrote this about talking with friends on my bedroom floor in my old college house (built in 1897 I think?) where dozens of girls who lived there before me had done the exact same thing. Seemed really witchy when I looked back on it, lol.

@janie_mae_09 awe, I wrote this song w my friend Charlie. Originally I think we were going for a metaphor for abundance and talking about pie at family dinner as an example (when you’re a kid you’re always down to go back for seconds). Charlie came up with this version using “sky”instead :)

@janie_mae_09 wrote this abt moving to LA last fall. felt like the end of an era (living in Utah). wanted to channel some teenage angst for this line hahah- I was thinking how my teenage self would feel about the move.

@anxiousAND1 thank you! this from I Haven’t Seen You Since The Summer. I was playing w writing w religious language a lot at the time. I was thinking about how when it’s hot outside it’s sort of sanctioned chill time - a seasonally ordained social script, hahah.

@annuhthalur hahahha. this is from a SoundCloud demo called “Down”. wrote it when I was 17 ish and going through my first real breakup. felt like I was giving up on a good relationship and really didn’t know why. i was feeling sooo dramatic lol
