as a chronic underexplainer i’m contributing to the ecosystem from a niche but powerful place one time a fic of mine was so cryptic and inscrutable multiple ppl were leaving reading comprehension questions in the comments there’s a market for it is what i’m saying

I have a theory that the reason so much of fanfic/internet writing is heavily over saturated with explaining the metaphor or breaking atmosphere to make sure the point is received is because of how terrified authors are that readers will not get what they’re talking about+

‘fanfic prose’ discussion got me wanting to point at the sign again man i think it depends. Yeah of course it sounds like fic that’s what it is there’s established patterns curated by culture over time And we should still try to have unique styles n voices two things can be true

seen a lot of discourse surrounding this n my informed opinion is man i think it depends. generally i’m a big fan of an absurd metaphor but it also still has to be anchored somewhere. Agree that overexplanation will cripple an otherwise good comparison
