@RobertSecundus I’d love to agree but let’s be real for a second, we’re not *getting* an election in 2028 if things keep up at this current trajectory. My connections in academia feel the same rn.

@eebendeeben You aren't wrong about this economy, but if you're in the US, there will be a lot more biology jobs opening up in 2028. either way the election goes, it's unlikely that this one's specific approach to medical research especially will continue.

@dermaporebei @RobertSecundus Wow, too bad there are literally no jobs in any of those fields where I’m at. I’m seriously convinced 95% of the job postings around here aren’t real at all… that’s how bad the market’s been since I graduated.

Yawn! (。☉︵ ಠ╬)
a big problem with ASD masking is that as soon as your support needs change, nobody fucking believes you or cares. I haven’t been able to function for 2 years & I’m getting *worse* every day bc of the pressure. I’m going to die in my childhood bedroom having accomplished nothing

It’s funny people are like “AI has a PR problem” now. As if you could just not tell people about the datacenters, about the potential for replacing workers, and it would be okay. It’s not a PR problem. It’s a problem problem!! The problem is real!

No it’s ridiculous to say “all protest is good protest” if it’s actually counterproductive. Consider you’re being sexually abused in an ICE detention center and people start throwing dildos in the yard. Come on
beth 🔻@awkwrd_mama

there’s thousands of different ways to protest. throwing everything at them creates chaos impossible for them to succinctly respond to. all protest is good protest.

i genuinely feel bad for people that gritted their teeth to study STEM fields or whatever and are getting their asses beat in the job market. at least you get to have fun in the humanities and can make the experience truly rigorous if you care enough to do so
Jaycel Adkins 鍾書@JaycelAdkins

Unless you are going to a Great Books school or SLAC, don’t major in the humanities. Major in what your parents are trying to bully you into. Make reading a hobby.

“reading is dying out” is something that people used to instantly recognize as indicative of a descending, lamentable dark age but is now met with at best a collective shrug from society and at worst cheers from the cavemanlike enablers of ignorance running half the tech industry
Times Higher Education@timeshighered

With undergraduates viewing education as a transaction and AI offering helpful summaries, reading is dying out on UK campuses, says Agnieszka Piotrowska timeshighereducation.com/opinion/one-bo…

a reminder that the autistic community has a 17% employment rate, not bc we arent employable, but bc employers refuse to make even minor accomodations for us.

Look at the replies and quote tweets. One had 57k likes. 57k. Let that sink in. When Winnie was raped she was hospitalised with 39 injuries. Her rapist was out in 4 years. Every single like is a danger to women.

The disrespect for scientists these days is shocking. I made the news for photographing an extremely rare spider in the jungles of PNG and the comments are just full of dismissive people. What has happened to having respect for experts in their field?

@evanwch I literally opened up Facebook and saw someone had posted that a local bar owner had r*ped her. Just put it out there for all to see. Rather than going to the police or anything, just making it public and open.

I remember the first time I realized how everyday men must have felt during the “Me Too” movement I was on a tinder date when a guy asked permission to kiss me. It was the first time in my life anyone had ever done that and it completely turned me off It was also the first time I noticed how the politics of “Me Too” had seeped into my personal life, how men’s natural behavior had started to shift, shaped by fear “I don’t want to get in trouble,” he said, after noticing my reaction. “Have you seen the news?” This was right after Alyssa Milano asked people to reply “Me Too” if they had experienced sexual harassment or assault. The hashtag was everywhere. Suddenly unavoidable Women don’t understand how the excesses of Me Too have done REAL damage. They’ve made normal interactions between men and women impossible, they’ve made all men marked as “predators” for normal behavior, and it’s turned all women into helpless victims with no agency It’s time we #MuteMeToo
