It's gotten pretty complex because genAI has become so rampant amongst events of all levels. Even small, localised events that have been running for decades are now using genAI for their ads which makes it harder for the general public to distinguish between event types. It's very easy for a smaller event to use genAI to make their event look far bigger or ambitious than it really is. So when a scam event comes around, people will just believe it's a full, proper event. It's not exactly easy to get background info on who is running this stuff and what their credentials are.
