The practice of using the letters x, y, and z to represent unknown quantities in mathematical equations can be attributed to the French mathematician René Descartes. In this book, he used letters from the end of the alphabet (x, y, z) to represent unknowns in algebraic equations, while letters from the beginning of the alphabet (a, b, c) were used for known quantities. Descartes' introduction of this symbolic notation was a significant development in the history of algebra, as it provided a standardized way to express mathematical relationships and equations. This notation is still widely used in mathematics today.

"I’m so sorry," said one official. The family was then forced to call and pay for a ride from the facility, putting even more unfair strain on them. It's still unclear which agency detained them, since ICE's mass detainment and deportation operations are being aided by U.S. Marshals, the DEA, and the FBI.
