Thanks to this Government resident doctors have already received a 28.9% average pay rise.
The deal on offer goes further on pay, and would create more training places - including 1,000 now.
The BMA can’t even offer an alternative proposal.

Give it a rest. I did the right thing. I have a rebel on the public bill committee. We didn’t quite have the numbers to defeat it Tuesday but we do now and will be able to amend it out of the Bill. I don’t need a lecture from you, Grumpy. I do what’s right and fear no one.

Committee Stage is where those arguments can be properly tested and improvements made.
Abstaining therefore protects our principles while keeping open the path to amend the legislation so that it better reflects the views of the majority of colleagues and the public.

There has been a lot of public debate about todays vote, I want to make clear that abstaining at Second Reading allowed many of us to make clear that we do not support the Bill as it stands, while ensuring it can proceed to the next stage where the real scrutiny happens.

I remain firmly opposed to any erosion of trial by jury. I will abstain at 2nd Reading and work to amend the Bill to remove its worst parts. Today isn’t the moment to defeat the Government, but as the Bill progresses I’m confident we can win the argument. Watch my speech below.

Ben, I would have done alright financially without being an MP. But it isn’t about that for me. I wanted to be an MP to do Labour policy. We’ve had some stuff we can be proud of. But there’s a long way to go before we can go to the country with proof of change. We need change.

I didn’t knock a single door in the by-election. I’ve been up in Hull, looking after my 9 year old daughter that’s just come from the care of @AlderHey after major reconstructive hip and femur surgery. So if the Labour MP in question wants to talk to me, give me a bell.

I hosted a delegation of Chinese business leaders in Hull recently. I can tell you that they were concerned about the attitude of the previous government towards the nation which put off investment in our country. My constituency needs to see investment. PM is right to be there.

My January salary donation to our A Bed Every Night scheme. This year, I will be calling on the Government to make this a national approach. GM can’t fix rough sleeping on its own. Newly-arrived or otherwise, no one should have to spend one night on Britain’s streets in 2026.
