When you buy a brand new phone the first thing you should write down is the IMEI number. Once the phone is stolen report to the cybercrime unit at the Ghana Police… if the court gives an order to proceed with tracking that’s all, they will retrieve the phone for you even if it’s gone missing for years. It’s also important to get yourself an ESIM phone
With ESIM phones, the SIM card is built inside the phone and can’t be taken out like before. This means if someone tries to track the phone, they can still do it even if the phone looks like it’s been reset or wiped clean. In Ghana, the police use special tools to find where a phone is by checking signals from nearby towers, and they can also connect the phone to your national ID (Ghana Card). So, if you buy a used phone, it’s easier to trace who it belongs to and where it’s been.
That’s why when the police calls you to come to assist with investigations concerning stolen phones they mention your full name. If you fail to show up, they will come for you. Becareful when buying a SECOND HAND PHONE!
