सूरत में AAP को मिल रहे जनसमर्थन को देखकर बीजेपी घबरा गई है। AAP नेता मनोज सोरठिया, जो वार्ड नंबर 4 से चुनाव लड़ रहे हैं, उस वार्ड के लिए बीजेपी अपने उम्मीदवार की घोषणा भी नहीं कर पाई।
गुजरात की राजनीति के इतिहास में पहली बार बीजेपी डरती हुई नजर आ रही है, और इसका कारण जनता का बीजेपी के प्रति गुस्सा और आम आदमी पार्टी को मिल रहा समर्थन है।
जनता के गुस्से और AAP के बढ़ते प्रभाव के कारण बीजेपी उम्मीदवारों की घोषणा नामांकन के अंतिम दिन तक नहीं कर पाई। यहां तक कि 10 अप्रैल की रात 11 बजे जारी सूरत महानगरपालिका उम्मीदवारों की सूची में भी वार्ड नंबर 4 के उम्मीदवार का नाम शामिल नहीं किया गया।
इस वार्ड में आम आदमी पार्टी के युवा और संघर्षशील नेता मनोजभाई सोरठिया चुनाव लड़ रहे हैं, जिसके कारण बीजेपी इस वार्ड में अपना उम्मीदवार घोषित करने की स्थिति में नहीं दिख रही है।
