one of the things that confused me most was all the hate toward lenore dove for helping woodbine’s mom. to me, it felt like a rebellious act coming from empathy, at least where i’m from, we’ve seen so many parents lose their kids to oppressive systems

This is such a blatant consequence of how desensitised people are to the marginalized suffering because that's what the district people symbolize. Empathy just fucks off and evaporate the second the victims are of marginalized majority as if they aren't worthy of that.
