Ed Davy’s offer from LibDems to voters that no one would have to wait more than 12 hours in accident and emergency would be a “judicially reviewable” right he says, what he calls a legally enforceable right, unlike other NHS targets. So is this like our right to get a refund when a train is delayed? If we are in A&E for say 13 hours, what is the restitution?
UPDATE
I have now asked Ed Davy about this. Apparently our “restitution” would only come if we were to sue a LibDem health secretary. Which doesn’t sound either practical or plausible!

First Female Archbishop of Canterbury says debates on immigration “divide us” while calling for sympathy for those who “experience the hardship and injustice of inequality.”
Dame Sarah Mullally, the incoming Archbishop of Canterbury, has said debates on immigration “continue to divide us, when our common humanity should unite us.”
“As joy breaks through in our lives it gives us the opportunity to become people who make room.
Room in our homes. Room in our churches. Room in our public conversations and in the attitudes we hold.
The joy asks us to allow our lives to be interrupted by the needs of others, just as the people of Bethlehem were interrupted.
Our national conversations about immigration continue to divide us, when our common humanity should unite us.”

Under the Tories, the welfare bill went up by £88 billion.
They left children too poor to eat. They wrote young people off as too ill to work.
That costs the country money and is bad for productivity.
And it's a massive waste of potential.
This is a moral mission. We need to reform the welfare state, and remove all the incentives which hold back the potential of young people.
That’s what my government is doing.

@libsoftiktok Seriously disappointed. I bought the LSE was meant to be for smart kids.

@vicpolky @davetrott Bugger. I smugly opened the comments to make the same excellent remark.

This is what we are having to deal with.
It’s inhumane…No one is talking about it…using British citizens married to foreigners to get immigration numbers down.
I’m a British citizen and the U.K. government won’t let my foreign wife live with me in the U.K.
I own my own house outright, (no rent no mortgage) I’m self employed, my wife is a university graduate, artist, illustrator that speaks three languages. They say we may be a risk to the welfare system because I don’t earn a skilled worker’s salary. Imagine how this feels, my wife can’t live here because I dont earn a figure that my government plucked from the sky! We are paying £500+ to rent an apartment in Turkey for my wife, plus utilities ect. Money that could stay in the U.K. (Anna’s home country is Russia but left when Russia invaded Ukraine)
I keep getting told go and live in your wife’s country…problem solved!
Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. advises against all travel to Russia due to the risks and threats from its continuing invasion of Ukraine, including:
security incidents, such as drone attacks, and Russian air defence activity
lack of flights to return to the UK
limited ability for the UK government to provide support
I would not be entitled to benefits and nor would my wife so what’s the risk?
I can not reinvest in by business because I have to show 29k profit, so the business suffers.
My wife can’t visit the U.K. on a tourist visa because the U.K. government feels Anna may overstay her visa! The only way is for me to visit Anna. When I’m not working I’m not earning, so how do I get to the 29k.
To live with my wife I will have to sell up and leave the U.K. This is how the U.K. government discriminates against its own citizens. It’s called MIR. As for the astronomical visa fees, which the government can not answer how they came up with such a figure, nor can they say what it’s spent on. Family visa for being married to a British citizen £1846. (The money left over from the processing of the visa should be refunded) in retail or trade keeping the money and not been able to give a detailed receipt would be illegal and trading standards would be involved.
For example to issue a Schengen visa fee to visit 29 countries €90….make that make sense.
The legal migration business run by the British government leading to hundreds of British citizens to live apart from wife’s, husband’s, children…

I love it when politicians get hoisted by the petard of their own stupid government regulations. Unfortunately, the regulation always seems to survive, even if the politician doesn’t

I welcome Leeds City Council's decision to expand their selective landlord licencing policy to include the Armley area. While many private landlords operate in the right way, we know that lots of private tenants in Armley face problems with poorly maintained housing. (1/3)
