30+ years working in education. Still learning. Always it is by bridges that we live. (Larkin) Views are my own.

@johncosgrove405 Do any MAT CEOs work regularly in schools, e.g. taking part in break and lunch duties?

1,300 MAT CEOs, paid average salaries of around £150,000, totals £195 million annually. Before academies there were 153 LA Directors of Education; there still are. This guy's £500k isn't the real scandal, academisation has been - and is - a colossal drain on Education finances.

This is really shocking: “The member of the clergy… said they would be willing to (take the funeral) but would not be able to refer to the bereaved husband, or to the fact that the deceased person was married to a man….this was because the Church does not approve of gay marriage and if he were to refer to the marriage in the funeral it would be seen as going against church teaching. This would be considered as a political act.” 😡😡😡😡

Are LGBT people actually welcome in @churchofengland or are they a bit of a problem? A personal reflection at retiredrector.blog/2025/12/19/are… @Rgt71Robert

@warwickmansell I absolutely agree with this article. Over the past 30 years, schools have undergone a transition from educating for life, to schooling for exams. Who in the MAT system is currently advocating for change to the metrics on which schools are judged?

@DeputyGrocott No. Nor do they have credibility. It would be interesting to know how long it is since they have taught in a school.

@ajjolley @ShakinthatChalk One issue is that if a FSM student doesn't spend their full daily allowance, they don't have their change rolled over to the following day. I have yet to understand where this change goes.

Just heard an accusation that schools profiteer from FSM & keep some of the money I’ve also heard it said that “some primary schools make £35,000 profit from school meals” They argue caterers should receive all the funds I think it’s BS, but I’m interested to hear any thoughts

@RogersHistory All contacts with a school should be triaged, similar to how GPs manage their communications.

The complaints culture in schools is now out of control. The threshold is way too low for firing in emails or calls and expecting affirmative responses. It seems it has become the main pastime in some people’s lives. I don’t know how school leadership teams with it tbh.

@amanda_spielman Do you think that Ofsted has skewed education in favour of an academic approach?

How many people understand (a) that inspection has for years looked at nearly all these things (not admissions, as that is overseeen by the Admissions Adjudicator) but . . .
Dan | APFinder.co.uk | Semh.co.uk@Semhlead

Ofsted needs to start assessing how well a school meets the needs of ALL it's community, not just the ones they select. Look at - admissions practices - EHCP consultations - managed moves - EHE - In year moves - off site direction schoolsweek.co.uk/questions-for-…

You can't be a "belonging" or "inclusive" school if your academic results are atrocious. In my opinion, that's by definition, but even if not, realistically a school that is doing badly academically is going to be doing badly across the board.

Reading and digesting the safeguarding review on Mossbourne Victoria Park Academy. TES headline below is most insightful of three I've seen so far: tes.com/magazine/news/…

@ThomasWillett9 Are you being homophobic? In answer to your question, as long as a teacher has the necessary DBS completed and follows the school's safeguarding policy they are able to work in a school.

Prof. Stephen Whittle OBE, PhD, DLaws, FAcSS,
1. The assumption in your question is that’s teacher who has met all the safeguarding requirements suddenly becomes a danger if they transition, or is found to have undergone gender reassignment in the past Think about that - imagine being told a teacher you know well …
