For too long, the national response to knife crime has lacked the scale and cohesion this threat demands. This week, we published "Protecting Lives, Building Hope", our plan to halve knife crime and to right this wrong - but we did not achieve this on our own. Driving real change around this issue demands input from every part of the system. The contributions of our Coalition to Tackle Knife Crime and their ongoing commitment and dedication to preventing violence cannot be understated. Many have drawn on their own personal tragedy to ensure other families never have to feel the pain of losing a loved one to knife crime. Their insight has proved invaluable in pursuit of our mission to tackle this issue throughout the country. This plan goes further than ever before to ensure young people get the best start in life and to stop those at risk from turning to knife crime. We know tackling violence will not be easy. But in our mission to protect lives and build hope, we will be unrelenting.

A bereaved sister had finished a 20km run in Wolverhampton on what would’ve been her brothers 20th birthday. Ronan Kanda was killed in 2022 in a case of mistaken identity. We’ve followed Nikita Kanda on her challenge today👇▶️

What I feel is pure sadness when I think of what happened in Huntingdon. I hope to see justice in the coming days. Wishing a speedy recovery to all victims. 🙏🏽

We've joined up with @the_atlp & @bauermedia 👏 Pupils from Stockland Green School had a #KnifeCrime workshop where they heard from Bauer Media, the police, & Nikita Kanda (@ronankanda ) They created a 40-second audio advert warning about the dangers of carrying a knife.

Our Labour government delivered Ronan's Law, to crack down on knife sales and keep our young people safe.

"If I didn't do anything, then I okayed my son's death, and I was not going to do that" Pooja Kanda has been campaigning to change the law around the sale of ninja swords since her 16-year-old son Ronan, was murdered three years ago. The law finally comes into effect on Friday

From today, under Ronan's Law, ninja swords will be banned nationwide - with thanks to Pooja Kanda, who campaigned tirelessly in her son’s name, refusing to accept any more lives lost to violence. This is a vital step in delivering our mission to halve knife crime in a decade.

To anyone who carries bladed articles and wants to do the right thing and get rid of them. Ninja sword, knives, or offensive weapons that you wish to dispose of can also be securely dropped at a surrender bin or the mobile surrender van. Follow link in the comments.
