I'm excited to finally share the re-engineered `app dev` command. I had the honor of working on this with the CLI and app platform teams. Full dev store isolation, inclusion of app config, and so much more. If you are still running `app deploy` while developing, we fucked up!

@hunkybill Hey, are you installing the latest version? Since 3.59 the CLI only has 1 dependency :) (You can also install it globally if you prefer to keep your project clean!)

Can’t say I am not disappointed that a simple command like yarn add @shopify/cli does serious damage to my “software sensitive soul”. My SSS. 372 updated dependencies. Some so stupidly named, it’s a shame. So dirty. My poor old computer is now infected with 372 more “things”.

@hunkybill The CLI needs to know the tunnel to serve ui_extensions for dev and build deeplinks to them, update the URL in partners (optional), set some env variables for your app and some other stuff. How does it break on linux? can you open an issue about that? We can look into it

With the @shopify/cli what does the —tunnel-url really do? I am curious. I setup my tunnel manually. So now my App can talk directly from Shopify to my computer. Why do I need to inform the CLI of my tunnel? It seems to break my Linux when I use it, but MacOS works. Puzzling.

@hunkybill @d_rbn I think you might have two versions of the CLI installed: v2 (ruby) and v3 (node). You’d need to uninstall v2 or remove it from the PATH

@d_rbn Nope. We’re good: /Users/elmerfudd/.rbenv/shims/shopify And yes, I need rbenv as I have many versions of Ruby kicking around, but Ruby is not the problem.

Can anyone explain WTF is the thing with the Shopify CLI? I use it with Apps in my package.json, and use it with yarn. But the documentation for themes says it works from the command line, as a command “shopify”, which seems utter bullshit? What is going on here? Who’s in charge?
