The NFL profits from gambling. Networks profit from gambling. Sportsbooks profit from gambling. But when a player who grew up surrounded by gambling ads places a bet, everyone acts shocked. The rules should exist. The outrage always feels selective.

The NFL isn’t holding a supplemental draft for Brendan Sorsby. Statement from Sorsby’s attorney, Jeffrey Kessler “It is an unlawful action in violation of the CBA. The player is going to bring this to the NFLPA.”

This directly contradicts this idea that the NFL can do whatever it wants as to Sorsby. The established pattern and practice is to let players who are eligible for the supplemental draft into the supplemental draft. They can't just say, "Well, we don't feel like having one."

Sorsby has not broken any NFL rules. So why is the league preventing him from joining the NFL?
