🧠✨Proud to share that our article has been accepted in Turkish Neurosurgery:
“A comparative study of large language models in Turkish neurosurgery education using a mock neurosurgery board examination.”
In this study, we designed a 50-question mock neurosurgery board exam based on the 2021 Turkish Neurosurgical Society Board Exam Question Book and evaluated performance across:
👨⚕️ 10 chief neurosurgery residents
🤖 Multiple large language models (including ChatGPT o3-minihigh, ChatGPT-4.5, Gemini 2.0 Pro, and DeepSeek-R1)
Our goal was not only to compare human and AI performance, but also to explore:
📚 The effectiveness of LLMs in answering board-level neurosurgical questions
🎓 Their potential role as supportive educational tools in neurosurgery training
⚖️ The strengths and limitations of AI in high-level medical reasoning
The results provide important insight into how AI may integrate into future surgical education, not as a replacement, but as an adjunct learning partner.
I am deeply grateful to my mentors
Prof. Dr. Mark C. Preul, Prof. Dr. Ömer Hakan Emmez, and Prof. Dr. Ender Köktekir
for their guidance, vision, and support throughout this project.
Excited to see where the intersection of AI and neurosurgical education will take us next.
