Today, my counselors in the First Presidency and I were grateful for the opportunity to visit the Salt Lake Temple, which has been undergoing a significant renovation since 2020.   We look forward to welcoming people from throughout the world during the Salt Lake Temple Celebration and open house, to be held from April through October 2027.   Above all, we look forward to teaching about the sacred purposes of temples throughout the world. In the temple, faithful men and women receive divine instruction, sacred responsibilities, and spiritual power.   It is in the temple that eternal covenants are made that bind us and our families to our Heavenly Father and to one another for eternity.

Truly, Jesus Christ is the way to peace in this world, and eternal life in the world to come. He knows and loves each of us perfectly, and invites us to walk with Him, abide in Him, and follow His example of ministering to others one by one in charity and love. We have been reminded of the central role of marriage and families in our Heavenly Father’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children. May we demonstrate the pure love of Christ in our families, in our communities, and in all of our interactions with God’s children. #GeneralConference #GreaterLove

“The Family: A Proclamation to the World” states, “The family is ordained of God.” I love the clarity of that statement. The Family Proclamation is a call for us to live in mortality, ever mindful of the divinity within us, and the eternal future that lies before us. The principles are not out of step—but perfectly in step with the ways of the Lord and His covenant path. The teachings of the Proclamation were revealed by our Lord Jesus Christ to His Apostles then and now. This is His Church; He has established the truths by which we live. Our Father in Heaven has provided this proclamation to help guide us home to Him, to help us learn and be filled with love, strength, purpose, and eternal understanding. #GeneralConference #HearHim

Today is the 30th anniversary of the first reading of “The Family: A Proclamation to the World,” issued in 1995 by the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Family Proclamation helps us, as disciples of Jesus Christ, to recognize that our lives, our daily choices distinguish us from the ways and advocacy of the world around us. It also teaches about family, marriage and gender and their part in the kingdom of our Father in Heaven. The proclamation states: “The family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children.” This statement is the crux of the message of the proclamation and of the message I shared today at a devotional at Brigham Young University. I love the proclamation. In a recent General Conference, I taught that “Words Matter.” The words in the Family Proclamation matter. Here are a few that stand out to me: · Family: Every one of us belongs to a family. · Creator: Our Heavenly Father created the plan that brought us to the earth. · Eternal Destiny: Our life did not begin here in mortality, nor does it end at the grave. · Children: Each of us is a son or daughter of heavenly parents. · Happiness: The answer to finding happiness is always Jesus Christ. I echo today the words that were first spoken by President Gordon B. Hinckley 30 years ago: “Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ.” Please know that “The family is ordained of God.” He is ever with you.
