@alexisxrivas @jasonc_nc Yup, unaccountable law makers. And as if that weren't enough and their ever-increasing revenues (check 990s) weren't enough; they are hell-bent on having a monopoly over the law after it becomes binding on citizens (so you need their permission to even quote it).

Did you know that local building code isn’t owned by your city? Since codes are copyrighted by private orgs that sets standards, municipalities can only license their publishing. Building codes in most of the country are “private law” written by private orgs w/ no accountability to the general public, but enforced by govt as statutes. In short: We are subject to laws created and controlled by private groups, but enforced by government power. As far as I can find, no other country operates this way as it outsources regulations and bypasses consideration of the broader public interest in setting them.
