The programme focuses on securing the alphabetic code, building fluency and supporting reading for pleasure as pupils become more confident, independent readers.

Too many Year 7 students are starting Key Stage 3 without the reading ability to access the secondary curriculum.  Left unaddressed this puts them at risk of low self-esteem and under-achievement now and lower earnings and possible unemployment in the future.
