VLC is kinda ass nowadays check out mpv.rocks

btw I don't really hate VLC. VLC itself is a great project, but it has grown quite big and has a complex code base which does slow down development. I've been using Haruna (mpv-based Qt frontend) for some time now and it feels snappier and more stable than VLC (for me at least)

@stackallocator The only problem I have with haruna is like every other MPV player based frontend in its severe lack of features compared to VLC. VLC remains the swiss army knife of media apps.

@stackallocator backpedaling makes you look weak

@stackallocator Vlc royaly screws up the colors in 4k files fairly often, so I switched over to mpv.
