Carnival of Horror
Carnival of Horror@HorrorCarnival·
Suicide Club (2001) A wave of coordinated suicides sweeps across Japan—starting with 54 schoolgirls who leap in front of a train. As detectives dig for answers, eerie clues surface: a cryptic website, haunting pop songs, and a bubbly girl group that may be linked to the madness. The deeper they look, the more the mystery spirals into a chilling question about identity, connection, and why people choose to live—or die.

@HorrorCarnival Early 2000s Japanese horror had a unique way of turning social anxiety into psychological horror. Suicide Club wasn’t just trying to scare people, it was asking uncomfortable questions about loneliness and identity.

Suicide Club is a disturbing and thought-provoking exploration of modern alienation, mass psychology, and the dark side of digital culture. Rather than focusing on graphic events, it uses horror imagery to ask uncomfortable questions about why people can feel disconnected even in a highly connected society, making it one of the more controversial and psychologically intense films of early 2000s Japanese cinema.

@HorrorCarnival the greenscreened blood made me bust out laughing, but other than that, looks like it'll be an interesting watch

@HorrorCarnival Seriously, I love how it's made, not too much effort on making it look like they actually died. That calms me down

@HorrorCarnival How come the train wasn’t slowed down/stopped by this much bodies ? There must have been someone who survives at the very end of the line.

@HorrorCarnival I wanted to like this movie. It was wonderfully crazy, but I felt like there were mixed messages that ultimately didn't say much. The suicide scenes felt like gratuitous shock with an obligatory "Don't self-delete" message tacked on in the end.

Suicide Club is one of the most unsettling explorations of societal alienation I’ve ever seen. It turns a shocking premise into a disturbing commentary on identity, conformity and the emptiness lurking beneath modern youth culture in Japan. The mix of pop aesthetics with horror makes it unforgettableand deeply haunting.

@HorrorCarnival Great twisted film. Wanted to get a bootleg of Battle Royale in college and it came in a 3 pack with this and Tokyo Raiders. TR is still a fun spy film even without cinnamon rolls of skin like Suicide Club.

@HorrorCarnival Also hilariously gratuitous amounts of blood. Throughout the film it always seems like humans have, like, 20 litres at least.

@HorrorCarnival Wow! I've never heard of that movie. Regarding the physics: Wouldn't the girls who were the furthest away from the oncoming train be injured rather than killed? Or is it plot armor that takes all their lives.
