One hundred days on, it’s clear Labor’s under-16s social media ban has not delivered as promised. Families were assured this would be a practical and enforceable safeguard, yet what we’ve seen is confusion for parents, uncertainty for platforms and real questions about how this works in practice. The Coalition has consistently supported stronger protections for young Australians online. But good policy is not just about announcing a plan, it’s about making sure it can actually be delivered. The government must now be upfront about what’s working and what isn’t. Parents deserve clarity and transparency, not confusion and obfuscation. This includes coming clean on how many accounts have been shut down. In January, the Prime Minister and Communications Minister announced that 4.7 million accounts were deactivated, removed, or restricted within days of the ban coming into force.
