Bellaire Dam officials have found a seepage at the base of Bellaire Dam and are warning residents who live directly downstream to have an evacuation plan as water levels continue to rise. Due to high water levels and continued rain in the forecast, officials of the Bellaire Dam will be monitoring conditions continuously through the evening and overnight. Media release for Michigan's 31st, 32nd, and 33rd tornadoes of 2025, which all occurred after 4:45 pm EDT Monday evening, September 22nd. Tornado #31 - Long Lake Road EF-U A brief tornado was caught on video near Long Lake in Grand Traverse county. This tornado did not have any distinguishable damage with it, and hence was given a rating of EF-U, or EF-unknown. Radar estimates this tornado occurred around 4:50 pm EDT, with a path length of 0 miles. Tornado #32 - Torch Lake/Clam River EF-0 This tornado began as a picture-perfect waterspout on Torch Lake around 5:50 pm EDT. This waterspout-turned-tornado was then filmed moving ashore, before quickly dissipating. Before dissipating, the NWS confirmed that it did cause damage to a couple of trees near Bellaire Ct at S Torch Lake Dr. Max winds were estimated at 75 mph, with a path length on land of about 0.2 miles. The path width reached a maximum of 10 yards wide. Tornado #33 - Bellaire EF-1 This tornado touched down in downtown Bellaire, causing minor tree damage near the public library around 6:02 pm EDT. The tornado would track across M-88 in downtown, strengthening at it moved northeast, bringing down more trees and branches. It would reach its maximum strength, with winds around 90 mph as it hit Blair Lake and Craven Park on the east side of Bellaire. The tornado path then ends over Blair Lake. Thankfully no injuries have been reported. This tornado was the longest of the three, lasting for 2 minutes and around 0.85 miles in length. It was also estimated at 30 yards wide at its widest point. -- Additional Information as of 6 pm EDT September 23rd -- • The funnel cloud near Grayling was not surveyed to our knowledge, and thus is not counted towards this years 2025 tornado total • We are now tied for 3rd all-time for tornadoes in a year here in Michigan, and are six shy of the record set in 1974 of 39 • Despite 33 tornadoes in 2025, not one has exceeded EF-1 strength anywhere in Michigan • Michigan is now at 1 EF-U, 17 EF-0's, and 15 EF-1's in 2025 • All three of these tornadoes which occurred Monday evening are now the furthest north tornadoes we've seen in Michigan this year • This is Michigan's first EF-U of 2025, with the most recent EF-U occurring near Cass City in 2024 Thank you for tuning in to our live coverage last night, and following along for all severe weather updates. Speechless. Unreal tornado just occurred on Torch Lake in Michigan. I was watching the webcam when it initially touched down lofting tree debris and quickly called the NWS in Gaylord. Hats off to them for getting the warning out in record time!
