Diljit is ethnically Punjabi. He sings in Punjabi. He dresses in Punjabi fashion. He draws from Punjabi folk history. He speaks on Punjabi issues. He was born in Punjab.
But he can't say he's from Punjab?
Indian & Hindu Nationalists are the most insecure losers on earth.
But there's more here to unpack.
Why does it bother them when Punjabis assert Punjabi identity?
Why do they want to erase Punjabi pride?
Why do they ask Punjabis and Sikhs to engage in purity tests and loyalty affirmations to India constantly even though we sacrificed the most for the naive promise of India?
Why do they try to malign both Punjabiness and Sikh self-determination of Khalistan in the same breath?
Why do they allow silly propaganda Bollywood movies with Punjabi characters like Dhurandhar but ban real life biopics of shaheeds like Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra?
Why do they tell Sikhs in the diaspora to come to Punjab to change things if they really care, but when someone like Bhai Amitpal Singh does come back and ignites a revolution they throw him in jail under draconian Indian laws indefinitely...and in spite of that he wins an MP election?
Why do they tell us India is great but then engage in transnational repression of Punjabi Sikhs abroad?
I can go on and on. It all connects. It's all an effort to reinstate ghulami.
They want to appropriate our culture and identity (a culture and identity the world loves), but want to erase us as a people globally.
Insecure losers.

On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Diljit Dosanjh says he is from “Punjab,” not India. This isn’t a slip, it’s a pattern. In a space where separatist narratives already frame Punjab as distinct, read how such messaging risks unintended validation for Khalistani sentiments👇 opindia.com/2026/05/punjab…
