I so appreciate Kris and Naveen taking time to learn about Alpha. We need more of this curiosity and willingness to examine different ideas from traditional educators.

@naveenfrizvi and I visited Alpha School New York last month. I’ve heard Naveen describe herself as going through ‘an existential crisis’ after seeing it, more than once. Why? Because on the one hand it seems to stand in defiance of everything she holds sacred in education. Privately educated, unlike me, Naveen is more than happy to describe herself as ‘traditionalist’ in her views. So why, then, did she later decide that she not only liked Alpha School, but liked it enough to want to send our goddaughter there, if she could? 🔗 👇

We used @alphaschool this year for our oldest. The academics were great — more than 2x growth. But the bigger win was confidence. His coach helped instill it, and we can almost pinpoint the moment it clicked: he realized he’s smart. That belief plus agency are the real keys. My twins are excited to join this coming Fall.

In traditional school, if your kid is ahead, the only move is to skip a grade. Now, they're the youngest in the class. This still doesn't solve the pacing problem or the fact that kids aren't uniformly advanced. A kid can be flying in math and behind in reading at the same time. At Alpha, a fifth grader doing geometry sits right next to a friend who's catching up on fourth-grade math. Same room, same age, no one pulled out, no one held back. They're just each working on what they actually need.
