Today would have marked the 70th birthday of Loïc Auvray, who disappeared far too soon, nearly 10 years ago. His passion for research, scientific creativity and his friendship will always remain an inspiration. With many colleagues, I remember him with affection and admiration.

@skdh Precisely the age of our Philips microwave and Miele dishwasher (both still going strong). BTW, I am not sure that newer models are technically superior in any way except possibly resource efficiency. Some technology may just may have peaked around 1990.

At the proud age of 35 our vacuum cleaner finally died with a stinky poof and we now have a new one. I'm all for quality German engineering but sometimes it gets in the way of tech turnover.

@fake_journals One problem is editors not heeding reviewer's advice and accepting and publishing the paper anyway without further consultation, as, btw, also happened in the rat macropenis case. But I've seen it happen even with the most prominent journals. Apparently, some editors are biased.
