Ironically, none of those steps will include actually addressing crime and violence, but in Seattle, that doesn’t matter. Virtue signaling is far, far more important than protecting a few chump voters who were “dumb” enough to buy homes near Aurora Blvd, especially since the vast majority of them will vote for you again.

Geography is immutable. Same for Russia and Ukraine, same for Canada and the US. The Canadian manufacturing sector sits in Ontario, right across the lake from the biggest market in the work and it’s only “true” viable export market. Transportation costs make all other markets tough.

@BlueStateGrump @TristinHopper I was thinking to Europe and so on and so forth, but I suspect that would not be economical either, as China can always produce cheaper. Shipping costs might be the only thing that is cheaper. I have no idea. I tend to agree with you.

The part of our economy where Trump can hurt us the most is the auto sector. Aluminum, oil, uranium, lumber; that stuff's all getting traded no matter the geopolitical situation. So you have to wonder why we embraced Chinese EVs, the one thing most likely to get Americans onboard with the idea of onshoring their auto sector from Canada.

It’s not profitable. Chinese EV manufacturers can produce and export their EV’s far more profitably in places other than Canada. The only reason to put those facilities in Canada would be for the US market - which isn’t going to happen. You cannot bet your future economy on access to the “Chinese Market.” The only thing they import are bulk commodities to support domestic industry - oil, potash, etc. There is zero market for manufactured goods export market to China.

The Canadian market is far too small to support large scale, expensive manufacturing (like EV's) if the Canadian domestic market is the only market where those products can be sold. Without access to the US market, there is no reason for anyone, particularly a non-US or Canadian auto manufacturer to build cars in Canada. The US is never going to allow Chinese EV's to be sold in the US, regardless of where they are manufactured.

That's a great question. The obvious answer is the attempt to subtitute the US auto industry losses (I recall deals to have Chinese ev's built here?) Either way, one might broaden the question to 'why would we strengthen our relations with China in general (despite Trumps error to force potential allies away from China to isolate them). ' I would really like to know what Trump is referring to when he says Canada doesn't treat the US very well beyond construing a trade deficit as some form of hostility to them. I'm amenable to hearing what it is.

@H1BExpose Without individual responsibility and punishment it’s a drop in the bucket. I bet they pay more than that every year to settle sexual harassment lawsuits.

Apple paid $25 million to make this quietly disappear. The DOJ found Apple ran a separate, worse hiring process for green-card roles, one designed so US workers wouldn’t find or apply for the jobs. Paper ads instead of its own website. Mailed applications in 2023. Postings kept off the systems every other Apple role lives on. The result: the largest recovery ever by DOJ’s Immigrant and Employee Rights section. $6.75 million in penalties. $18.25 million in back pay to the US workers who got shut out. This is one of the most valuable companies on earth. It didn’t do this to save money. It did it because the system let it. Apple settled. It didn’t admit fault. The $25 million speaks for itself.

Both OpenAI and Anthropic are considering price cuts. Neither of these companies but ESPECIALLY OpenAI can under any circumstances afford this pay cut. This is fundamentally insane. A sign of desperation that will erode revenue while costs stay linear. wsj.com/tech/ai/openai…

US law enforcement denied entry to this foreign national because of his ties to Al-Shabaab, a Somali terrorist organization. David Eby thinks that's "heartbreaking." BC's public safety should come before Eby's radical devotion to mass migration. No terrorists on Canadian Soil.

Premier Eby reacts to the “heartbreaking” story of a Somali World Cup referee who was refused entry into the United States: “In British Columbia he’d be considered gold, not garbage.”

WOW. Trump confirmed he doesn’t want to renew CUSMA. He said he doesn’t need our cars, our energy, our lumber, none of it. Congratulations Liberals. You just obliterated Canada. If it happens, Carney will go down as the worst PM in history.

The scenes in Belfast last night were shocking and completely unacceptable. There is no justification for the violence and disorder that we saw threatening our communities, nor for those who encouraged it, online or elsewhere. It is clear that people were targeted last night because of their background and I will not tolerate it. Those responsible will feel the full force of the law. I’ve spoken to the Chief Constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland to convey my thanks to them and the frontline emergency services for their bravery in keeping people safe. I’ve also spoken to the First Minister and Deputy First Minister to discuss the ongoing situation. Appealing for calm must be the priority, and that is what I urge now. We must let the police get on with their work.

A truly bizarre take. While AB was happy with the Harper years, huge swaths of the Canadian public were not: unions and labour groups, civil rights orgs, First Nations, environmentalists, veterans… all protested Harper regularly. But not one threatened to break up the country.
Shuv Majumdar@shuvmajumdar

Our country works when we honour the Confederation of 1867, founding one of the oldest democracies on planet earth. Prime Minister Stephen Harper delivered a Canada at peace with itself, confident in its future. Liberals deepen division when they dismiss the very frustrations they create. Those who built this country never gave up on it. Neither should we.

The OpSec shown in Belfast is next level. No faces recorded, no inchorent rage but lots of directed rage. No broadcasting organisation, but it was very evident. This tradecraft will spread across Britain. Establishment nightmare.
Aris Roussinos@arisroussinos

After taking this photo of burned out houses in East Belfast, two local lads scrolled through my phone photo library to ensure I hadn’t captured any faces, telling me “with no animosity, like” to “fuck away off before you get kneecapped”
