@ChesterM222 I said he’s on a nice contract because he’s a RFA coming up. I mean Byfield at the same age will be a UFA. The 5M he’s making rn is irrelevant to us, I’m well aware of that. He could be making 10M it wouldn’t matter.

@ChesterM222 It’s not tho he’s an RFA after two more years. Possible they are able to get him at a really good number long term or if they are farther behind then expected he becomes a valuable asset to whatever team wants to get him on a long term deal.

People have no clue in Vancouver about selling high because they’ve never done it. Trading someone doesn’t mean you hate them No one should be untradeable at this point if the offer is good. EP40, Hronek, even Rossi IMO. Anyone over 22 should be listened on

@ChesterM222 Ya it’s quite simple when you’re talking about pending UFA’s or guys who don’t fit the time frame. He’s 24 on a nice contract, still an RFA in a few years and plays a desirable position that’s been an organizational weakness. This IS not a simple move.

@Conditional1st It IS simple. This is the simplest part of the process. They are years away from having to be worried about defined roles for players. It’s just about volume and upside accumulation. Rossi is obv young enough that you should only consider moving him if it’s a huge package.

@ChesterM222 You make this sound so easy when the odds of a late 1st and good prospect (or whatever a return would be) don’t likely amount to being as good of a player as Rossi or as valuable as an asset 5 years from now Rossi is 29 still playing at a great level barring unforeseen drop off

They are at the beginning of a rebuild. Everything is about maximizing future value in exchange for present value. In theory your goal is to turn 1.0 units of value in 2028 into 1.2 units of value in 2030 when you’re more likely to contend. Obviously you want more for guys who could improve like Rossi cause of his age
