The ITUC is concerned about recent statements made by Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, calling for the use of live fire against Palestinians crossing from the West Bank without the required Israeli permits. This could include workers on their way to their workplaces. Trade unions stand for peace, dignity, and the rights of all working people. Any call for lethal force against civilians is unacceptable. We call on all parties and authorities to respect international law, protect civilians, and refrain from actions that escalate conflict and violence. The ITUC reiterates the urgent need for a just and lasting peace based on international law and a two-state solution that guarantees security and dignity for all. The current ceasefire is insufficient. Living conditions in the Gaza Strip remain unbearable and inhumane.

We strongly condemn the terrorist attack that targeted the Jewish community in Sydney. Targeting a peaceful event is an unacceptable act of antisemitism and hate-based violence. We extend our condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.

Barışçıl bir dini ve kültürel etkinliği hedef alan bu saldırı, antisemitizmin ve nefrete dayalı şiddetin kabul edilemez bir örneğidir. Hayatını kaybedenlerin ailelerine ve yakınlarına başsağlığı, yaralılara acil şifalar diliyoruz. Avustralya halkıyla ve saldırıdan etkilenen tüm topluluklarla dayanışma içindeyiz. Saldırı sırasında hayat kurtarmak için kendilerini tehlikeye atan sağlık emekçilerinin cesaretini saygıyla selamlıyoruz. Sendikal hareketin temel değerleri olan barışı, eşitliği, çok kültürlü yaşamı ve halkların kardeşliğini savunmaya kararlılıkla devam edeceğiz.
