A local restaurant is closed this weekend because too many staff are sick. A colleague's daycare was unsure they had enough healthy staff to stay open this week. We are in the second-largest COVID surge the US has experienced, but everything's fine...no need to acknowledge COVID.

Nat Geo Vol. 155 (1) 1979. I was 11 yrs old. That issue had a perforated flexi record you could remove & play on a record player. Brilliant for the time & captured my imagination. That’s how I first came to know the name Roger Payne and that people studied whales for a living.

Sad to hear of Roger Payne’s passing. I once sat next to Roger at a conference & had a nice pre-talk chat with him-it was the first time we met. Such a humble man. I wish I had gotten to know him better. The torch is passed on. apnews.com/article/8f5e73…

Pinniped whiskers are the largest & most innervated among mammals. Their hair shafts fx as a biomechanical filter; EI stiffness testing shows they are anisotropic. Low EI of beaded whiskers may enhance sensitivity to small changes in flow from prey. journals.plos.org/plosone/articl…

Sea otters ~121 of whiskers. Each whisker has 1340 nerves; that's 161,300 nerves to their entire pad. Their sensory cortex that receives this information is also expanded. Sea otter whiskers may be as sensitive as harbor seals, sea lions and walruses. frontiersin.org/articles/10.33…

@UCFTurtleLab It should. There’s some interesting published data about tumeric/curcumin and how it can shorten the symptoms. It helped me fwiw.
