We kicked off the final phase of our HCD Project for Women’s Financial Inclusion yesterday with a visit to the women of Small London CDA in Surulere LGA. This marks the beginning of our outreach to the remaining 8 LGAs across Lagos State - taking vital financial tools and knowledge to those who need it most. This project has stretched and shaped us in many ways, but what keeps us going is the unshakable belief that every woman we reach represents an entire generation uplifted. From access to savings and identity registration, to learning better financial habits, we are helping women in underserved communities step into more secure and empowered futures - one step at a time. By the end of this phase, we will have reached over 2,000 women across Lagos. That number may seem modest, but it is a powerful reminder that real change is often quiet, intentional, and deeply human. The Kaduna State contributory Health Management Authority KADCHMA Supported by a Development partner Africa Human Capital Development plus (HCD+) had organized an Advocacy visit to the Traditional Institutions across the State aimed at Increasing Awareness of and (1/4)

The workshop which featured a series of technical lectures and interactive sessions designed to equip participants with critical tools & insights had in attendance, Mgt. staff of the Office of SDGs, the Africa HCD+ Technical Team & Officials from the Lagos Bureau of Statistics.

Declaring the workshop open, the Permanent Secretary, Office of SDGs, Mrs. Kaphayah Olayemi Sarumi, emphasized the strategic relevance of capacity building in enhancing performance measurement, evidence-based governance & accountability within the state’s development ecosystem.

The workshop themed, “Strengthening Monitoring and Evaluation for Human Capital Development” held at the Dover Hotel, Ikeja, includes Monitoring and Evaluation Officers across MDAs and Public Affairs Officers in LGAs.

The Office in partnership with Africa Human Capital Development Plus (HCD+), convened a high-impact advocacy workshop for Statisticians, Planners, Public Affairs, and Monitoring and Evaluation Officers in Local Government, Ministries Departments and Agencies in the State.

We finally laid to rest the initial phase of my Office's HCD Project for Women's Financial Inclusion yesterday as we journeyed to Oko Agbon community in Agboyi Ketu LCDA - the twelfth and final stop in this impactful phase of the project - to meet with the women. Joined by our steadfast partners, @HCDPlus, @cowrywise, @LagHealthScheme, and @LASRRA_LASG, we came together once again to equip these resilient women with the knowledge and tools they need to take charge of their financial future in today’s dynamic economy. We were especially honoured by the warm welcome of the Olu of Agboyi Kingdom, HRM Oba Engr. Monsuru Abimbola Oladega, whose presence reminded us of the power of community in driving real change. With 12 communities reached and 1,200 women empowered so far - that is 1,200 lives and families touched - our hearts are full and our resolve even stronger to do more. At the Lagos State Office of SDGs, my team and I strongly believe that the SDGs cannot be delivered in silos. It is why we remain deeply rooted in SDG 17 - Partnership for the Goals. A manifestation of this is the annual SDGs Breakfast Meeting that we had the honour of convening on Tuesday. It was a strategic gathering that brought together members of the diplomatic community, development partners, public institutions, civil society actors, and private sector champions, all of us united by a shared mission: to accelerate progress toward the SDGs in Lagos State. Anchored on the theme, “Accelerating SDGs Through Strategic Partnerships,” the meeting served as a powerful reminder that the kind of future we envision for Lagos, one that is inclusive, equitable, and sustainable, is only possible when we all come together. From the invaluable insights that were shared to the renewed commitments made, that morning left me in particular inspired and re-energized. As the year gradually winds to a close, we made one last stop at the Araromi-Oguntimehin Community in Ibeju-Lekki LGA, where we engaged with the women to help them take control of their finances. By introducing modern financial tools for saving and investing, we are empowering them to maximize their earnings and build more secure futures for themselves and their families. This visit marks the sixth HCD Outreach this year, and we eagerly anticipate kicking off the coming year 2025 on an even higher note as we reach the remaining six communities. Yesterday, as I earlier announced, we flagged off our HCD Project with an energetic, all-hands-on-deck visit to Iwaya Community in Aderupoko, Yaba. We were not only warmly welcomed by the residents, we also received the full support of the Olu of Iwaya, Oba Suleiman Owolabi Ogun Oloko, who graciously opened his palace to us and extended his hand to us in friendship and partnership. It was incredibly fun and fulfilling to connect with the women in the community, helping them understand ways to grow their finances and make accessible investments for a more secure financial future. My heartfelt appreciation goes to our dedicated partners—@HCDPlus, @cowrywise, @OPay_NG Business, @LASRRA_LASG, and @LagHealthScheme—for their unwavering commitment to this project so far. Yesterday, we held a press briefing at my office to announce the launch of a pivotal initiative titled, “Promoting Human Capital Development through Advocacy for Women’s Financial Inclusion in Hard-to-Reach Communities.” This project aims to equip women in underserved areas across 12 LGAs/LCDAs in the state with essential financial literacy, entrepreneurship training, and access to vital financial services. With the support of our partners - @HCDPlus, @cowrywise, and @OPay_NG - I am confident that this initiative will create meaningful change in the lives of families and individuals in the targeted communities. By bridging the financial inclusion gap, especially for women who have been underserved for so long, we will be setting the stage for lasting economic empowerment. As I highlighted in my speech at the briefing, this project is a key part of the broader LightHouse Project and aligns perfectly with my office’s commitment to improve the standards of living in these hard-to-reach areas through inclusive development.
