As it is holiday time, I thought to post some bits of my work on tourism in Kenya: In the early 1980s German speaking tourists grew in such large numbers the Kenyan newspaper Coastweek always featured at least one page in German - and sometimes even a whole special issue. [1/4]

@Tum001Ke is currently digitising the Coastweek newspaper. Large parts can already be accessed here - coastweek.tum.ac.ke

The touristification of the coast came with opportunities and challenges for the local population. Coastweek frequently reported about racist hotel policies which barred single black women to enter hotels - as they were considered prostitutes. [3/4]
