🇬🇪🇭🇺Hungary under Orbán shows that a heavily rigged electoral system can still be contested. Georgian opposition is right to study it. But the comparison only holds if you understand precisely how different the Georgian reality is. 1/11

A big ongoing development in UK EU relations is Labour MPs now understanding the importance of freedom of movement. Replacing the cakeist Customs Union calls with this shows a real evolution in thinking to respond to what Brussels is saying. theguardian.com/politics/2026/…

@Andric1961 as a Brit observer I have to agree. But it's breaking down, and fast. There's more than grudging admiration for Poles now amongst Germans. Polish autobahns are better. So are the railways. Everything works. This surprises them

Admittedly, this impression is not based on polls or hard facts, thus hard to prove. Same goes for my impression that many Germans suffer from a similar (and similarly unjustifed) superiority complex towards Eastern Europeans. Life experience just fostered those impressions.
Michael Martens@Andric1961

In a regional context, many Serbs (not “the Serbs”) suffer from a superiority complex, thinking they are smarter, more dynamic & modern than their neighbors in Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania, while those in fact have long since surpassed them.

So many important news and updates are happening right now—please help me break out of my bubble and share more stories about Ukraine. Share this page and encourage others to follow so we can expand our reach and improve coverage together. I’m trying very much to help keep both your sanity and mine by sharing accurate news and analysis from Kyiv and Washington, DC, with sources from all sides 😉 Attached some random photos of me:

as sample based music stays under attack, remember: “you can even chop off the fingers i type with, those i hold the mic with, thinking i might quit, they dont know, that only makes more determined, ich lebe fur hip-hop, you can ask the germans” -GZA
Nicholas Craven@NicholasCraven_

hip-hop artists have been sacrificing their careers for decades to bring you great sample based music, pharaohe monch, de la soul, etc. only for fans to create a sample snitching database that would be sold for hundreds of millions to one of the biggest investors of ai warfare 😭

Tackling "waste" or "growth" is not unfortunately going to produce enough extra spending for all the non-priority priorities like defence or for example tackling the cost of living and thus is UK politics essentially currently broken by the challenge of demographics.

An insidious offshoot of sending influencers in to do a journalist's job is that it props up and justifies the celeb-on-celeb interview, which we've all fallen prey to, is generally bad for the form, and like many things may be Jimmy Fallon's fault. theguardian.com/culture/2026/a…

Today’s the 30th anniversary of RATM’S um, ‘memorable’ performance on SNL. There was a fight onstage between our crew and SNL stage hands moments before our performance, wrestling over some upside down American flags which adorned our amps. Timmy C then attacked host/billionarie/presidential candidate Steve Forbes’ family in the dressing room with a wadded up flag. Secret Service flooded the hallways. SNL cut (censored?) our second song and kicked us out onto the sidewalk. Evil Empire entered the Billboard Album Chart at #1.
