Not mentioned by Ben is that it is very cold in the East. Emissions of greenhouse gases of course do not explain this pattern, which can only be explained by the term "weather." 2. The polar vortex has apparently been disrupted this winter such that the West has gotten warmer air and the East has gotten colder air. What caused the polar vortex to vary this year is unknown. 3. The Earth's atmosphere is a chaotic non-linear system. Trying to blame the dramatic chaos on slight changes in atmospheric greenhouse gases is absurd. The other day, the Capital Weather Gang felt obliged to explain why it so badly missed Monday's weather forecast calling for heavy thunderstorms.
