🚨 HORROR IN TEHRAN: Nurses Who Treated Wounded Protesters Were Tortured and Gang-Raped in Custody Read and share. The world needs to know. Two nurses from a hospital in Tehran who treated wounded protesters during the nationwide uprising in January were arrested by security forces and subjected to extreme torture and repeated gang rape in detention, according to sources who spoke to Iran International. These women were part of the medical staff at Rajaei Cardiovascular Medical and Research Center in Tehran. On the night of January 8, the hospital received a wave of protesters injured by live ammunition during the regime’s crackdown. Security forces ordered the medical staff not to treat the wounded. Fourteen members of the staff refused. Soon after, security forces stormed the hospital. Two nurses were shot and killed in front of their colleagues. Their bodies were left on the floor and later discovered days later in Kahrizak. Five other nurses were arrested and disappeared into detention. What happened next to two of them is almost impossible to comprehend. One 33-year-old nurse was repeatedly raped by groups of security agents for days. She was subjected to multiple forms of sexual torture. Agents assaulted her with their hands and raped her in groups of two or three. They also inserted a foreign object into her body, causing massive internal bleeding. The injuries were so severe that doctors later had to remove part of her intestine, leaving her permanently dependent on a colostomy bag. Her uterus was severely torn and she has already undergone multiple surgeries. Doctors say it may have to be removed entirely. Before surgery, she reportedly begged doctors not to save her life, saying she would end it herself if she survived. Her psychological condition is now so fragile that her hands are tied to the hospital bed to prevent self-harm while she remains under the supervision of security forces. The second nurse suffered similar abuse. She was also gang-raped in custody, her intestine was severely damaged, and doctors were forced to completely remove her uterus due to massive bleeding. In one case, the family had to pay large sums of money to an intelligence officer to secure the woman’s release. Authorities then forced her to sign documents claiming she had entered a temporary marriage with one of the agents, and another pledge stating she would later claim the abuse had been committed by “rioters.” Human rights groups and the United Nations have repeatedly warned that detainees in Iran face systematic torture and sexual violence. Investigations have found that these abuses are not isolated incidents but part of a deliberate strategy to terrorize and silence protesters.
