#thinsectionthursday here’s an (ultra)mylonite with sick delta porphyroclasts and folded monomineralic layers. At the outcrop I thought I was sampling a sheared quartzofeldspathic dyklet but the mineral assemblage says otherwise. Dark layers are full of amph, grt, bt, fsp. 😁😱

Nice work that managed to date lower-crustal fossil #earthquakes from Lofoten for the first time, combining U-Pb on apatite with #EBSD and CL. Lower-crustal faults and shear zones are preferential fluid conduits in the otherwise dry lower crust even long after they formed
