A picture of defiance.
The Swatini Siyinqaba jet being escorted in the final leg of the flight back to Taiwan.
Say what you must about Eswatini but I admire her for choosing to stick with what she believes in no matter the blowback or the consequences.
It’s an admirable trait because we all at some point in our lives are faced with the same question; “Do I stick with what I believe in or go with the flow?”
It seems Eswatini is notorious for remaining true to herself.
Look at are her politics. She almost acquired a pariah state label for choosing to follow Tinkhundla system of government. She had to contend with not just internal but intense international pressure. The world is increasingly embracing her choice. Not that it matters to her anyway.
When the world including some African brothers and some internal opponents demonized our various cultures practices and celebrations, eMaswati simply dug in. Attendance in the national festivals surged!
Beijing should have asked from the West if the carrot or the stick works with Eswatini. Neither does. At one point when Eswatini was in a cash crunch, our brothers South Africa offered cash on the condition we went Multi Party. Eswatini said “No thanks, we will survive”.
EMaswati always forges its own path. Not even a sponsored violent uprising will make them change.
If “Ngeke sive ngani” were a people, eMaswati are those. I love us for it.
