@GTDEdmund I’ve been looking back at 18th C auction catalogues recently - some exclusively coins but others with a real mix of collections and interests. Important not to see coins in isolation either in collections or culturally

@NumisChat Recently finished the Ellerby Area Hoard, and have previously catalogued Horace Hird and others. The overriding sentiment I have with each is the extraordinary affinity numismatics has with the art world, how it can be presented, studied and valued historically and commercially

@lucyajmmoore @NumisChat By no means an expert but I've tended to refer to RB Dobson for this sort of thing, although a bit dated. For more modern work I'd look to Martin Allen's Mints and Moneyers book for some good recent-ish citations.

@profyarrow I've always said that numismatists are really good at jigsaws - we can sort through all the minor differences in detail!

@NumisChat What do I like to do on a surf and sun holiday? Sort the beach. I pile up the pebbles and shells by zoologic or geologic category. Some have teased me, but I say it's not work, its fun, I sort coins for work. Numismatists may be borne, not trained, just sayin.
