Today we remember the victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi in 1994. Over 1 million lives were taken in just 100 days targeted simply for who they were. April 11, 1994 stands as one of the darkest reminders of how Rwanda was left alone when it needed the world the most. At ETO Kicukiro, thousands of Tutsi who believed they were under UN protection were abandoned as Belgian peacekeepers withdrew, leaving them defenseless. Within moments, the Interahamwe moved in, separating families, killing many on the spot, and forcing others toward Nyanza-Kicukiro where countless lives were brutally taken. It is a painful memory of broken promises and a world that chose to look away. #Kwibuka32

Today, we gathered at the Nyanza Genocide Memorial in @KicukiroDistr to honour more than one million lives lost during the Genocide against the Tutsi. We reflected on the failure of the International Community to prevent the genocide, as we remember over 105,000 victims laid to rest at this memorial, the Tutsi who were abandoned by those who were meant to protect them. At this site, only about 100 people survived. They were rescued by the Rwandan Patriotic Army during the liberation struggle, as they advanced from Remera towards Rebero. Amb. Olivier Nduhungirehe, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; Samuel Dusengiyumva, Mayor of the City of Kigali; other government officials; members of the diplomatic corps; families of victims laid to rest at Nyanza; and residents of the City of Kigali joined a Walk to Remember the lives lost at Nyanza hill. #Kwibuka32 Remember - Unite - Renew

Today in Vejle, the Rwandan community in Jutland & Fyn gathered to mark Kwibuka 32. Survivors offered testimony. Youth carried the memory forward with song and dialogue. A panel reflected on the enduring significance of remembrance of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi not merely as history, but as a collective responsibility to the past and to the future. #Kwibuka32 #NeverAgain

WATCH: Hundreds take part in a solemn Walk to Remember from IPRC Kicukiro (former ETO Kicukiro) to the Nyanza Genocide Memorial, retracing the final journey of more than 2,000 Tutsi who were abandoned on April 11, 1994, when UN peacekeepers withdrew, leaving them at the mercy of genocidaires. This annual walk is part of #Kwibuka32 and symbolically follows the route victims were forced to take before being massacred at Nyanza.

The Walk to Remember has begun at IPRC Kigali, formerly ETO Kicukiro, in tribute to the thousands of Tutsi who were killed at Nyanza–Kicukiro after being abandoned by the UN peacekeeping contingent. The walk brings together survivors, families of victims, Kigali residents, government officials, representatives of different institutions, ambassadors accredited to Rwanda, and other dignitaries. This walk is a moment of reflection. As participants move along the route, they are reminded of the suffering and torture endured by the victims at the hands of the killers. It invites each of us to pause, reflect, and honour their memory with dignity. #Kwibuka32
