Today is Thursday of the Octave of Easter, an eight-day period of prolonged joy and solemnity, where each day is treated with the same liturgical rank as Easter Sunday itself, celebrating the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Today’s Gospel (St. Luke 24:35–48) tells of an appearance of Our Lord in the Cenacle on the very day of His resurrection. The risen Christ stands before His astonished disciples. He shows them His hands and feet, bearing the wounds of the Cross, and invites them: “Touch me and see” (Lk 24:39). The same body that was crucified now lives. The wounds remain, yet they are transformed—signs not of defeat, but of victorious love. For us today, the Risen Lord still presents His wounds. In the wounds of the Church, in the suffering of the innocent, and in our own trials, He invites us to recognize His presence, and to open ourselves to His transforming power that turns suffering into joy.

1 John 2:1-2 describes exactly what Jesus is doing right now. "My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world." Jesus, seated at the Father's right hand, serves as our Advocate (like a defense attorney or intercessor). When we sin as believers, He doesn't abandon us—He pleads our case based on His perfect righteousness and finished work on the cross (His propitiation/atoning sacrifice). This isn't begging a reluctant God; it's presenting His own blood and righteousness on our behalf, securing ongoing fellowship and forgiveness. It's deeply comforting and amazing: the risen Christ lives to intercede for us constantly (Hebrews 7:25; Romans 8:34). He knows every failure yet stands for us. That's active grace today.
