Hannah Denner appears before the Superintendent Registrar of Abergavenny at the Register Office on 3 October 1871 and declares that there is no impediment to her forthcoming marriage. This is in the workhouse documents for Gwent. Thoughts? @ProfProbert @ChalfontR @Workhouses

Very specific question #AncestryHour. Leaving out the details but does anyone know the process of getting a marriage in a registry office in the 1940s? (1943 to be exact) Would you need to provide proof of identity? E.g. birth certs

@ByYourBedside @HKW1981 Mark Searle and Kenneth W Stevenson, Documents of the Marriage Liturgy (The Liturgical Press 1992) is the book that you need! - it sets out the precise wording used at different times and in different traditions.

@HKW1981 Ah that's true. I hadn't even thought of the changes that might have made. Google black hole it is, I think 🤔

History buffs or 500-year-olds*: were UK wedding vows more or less the same in the 1500s as they are now? *I'm trying to avoid going down a Google black hole in which I look at everything other than wedding vows.

18th century friends... does anyone know what the legal/financial implications would be if a woman inherited a property/business from her husband but the property was mortgaged?
