We were incredibly lucky to host award-winning and best-selling children’s author Kiran Millwood Hargrave, who gave an awe-inspiring talk about the natural landscapes and earth magic that inspire her books. Heaps of curiosity, inspiration and 100% student engagement. Phenomenal!

Happy Black History Month!

Year 7 buzzed with excitement as they connected with their Year 8 buddy through a blind date with a book. They also embraced their library induction detective trail activity with heaps of enthusiasm and a can-do-approach.

@OasisPutney & @putneyhigh celebrated the end of our Eco Project with a visit to the #naturalhistorymuseum and a biodiversity workshop. It was interesting, exciting and so much fun to solve an ecological problem through the examination of real insect samples through microscopes.

Wonderful author @gemmarfowler visited @OasisPutney as part of our Eco Reading project. She gave an inspiring talk about being a writer and a workshop where students had a go at creating their own stories through props and buckets of imagination. 100% engagement and so much fun!

Big congratulations to @storybreathing for winning the #YotoCarnegies24 and the Shadower's Award for Illustration. A hat-trick as the beautiful The Tree and the River was also chosen a winner by our Shadowing Group, who adored the poignant story told solely through pictures.

Our #YotoCarnegies24 Group's vote resulted in two joint winners. The students love the powerful illustrations and how these communicate important messages and successfully manage the fine balance between heartbreak and hope. Congratulations! @storybreathing @catherinerayner

A massive highlight at the #AllYearsReunion occurred when the lovely @AAAiswriting popped into the library. Now a published writer, she described how her @putneyhigh English teacher encouraged her to write. Seconds later, she sees her book on display: what an amazing coincidence!

Thank you to the wonderful alumnae who visited the library/archives @putneyhigh at the #AllYearsReunion creating such a fantastic buzz. Your memories and help to identify students from old photos have left the archives richer and more alive.

As part of our Eco Reading & Learning project with @OasisPutney, we went to the @NHM_London and the workshop “LEGO Build the Change: Save the Planet”. Exploring the topic "coastal", students devised imaginative solutions to build a sustainable future using Lego. So much fun!

Lots of excitement from Year 10 as they chose texts for their reading and listening project. They put so much effort into the selection process, assessing titles from a list that includes a wide range of fiction, drama and poetry.

Our #YotoCarnegies24 Shadowing Group for the Illustration Award dived right into the reading and judging at their second meeting. It is too early to discern a clear favourite, but "The Midnight Panther" generated a significant "Wow". @pmistryartist

The Classics Dept. and the Library have launched a libelli latini (Latin novel) KS3 reading challenge. The Library’s new collection of books written entirely in Latin are a great opportunity to promote fluency in the language and deepen the understanding of the ancient world.

Our #YotoCarnegies24 Shadowing Group for Illustration is off the ground. The group of keen readers from Y6 and Y8 made a brilliant start during their first session, identifying the aspects that make a picture book appealing and discussing the impact colours have on a story.

We explored the power and purpose of book covers during a Y7 library lesson, which involved matching book covers, where the title had been erased, with their book blurbs. Lively discussions and profound thoughts.

We ended our #NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek last Friday with a quiz celebrating brilliant minds. Congratulations to Zaria who bagged the first prize, a chocolate Easter egg.

Year 11 hosted a brilliant lunch-time discussion on intertextuality in "Rebecca" for Year 10, to support them with their English Lit course work. Large audience and 100% engagement. Well done! #learningtogether
