@moviehowler 4 works so well as deconstruction of the trilogy AND a character study that really reflects on Woody’s entire arc. Yes he’s back in 5 but he’s not the “heart” since Jessie is carrying the emotional core for that film

3’s brilliance comes from watching Woody’s anxieties from 2 fully realized, and that story absolutely NEEDED to be told. It was the natural way to build upon the previous story

TOY STORY 4 is in many ways the superior film, imo. It doesn’t quite have the same emotional wrecking ball quality (or Ned Beatty crushing it) , but it also explores new emotional territory rather than rehashing the central anxieties from TOY STORY 2.

Yeah, this is obviously bait/heel work. I think he’s trying to build heat for a story where Speed fights him for the One Piece Jump, which would reframe this fairly common issue of Shounen Jump into a literal prize, and artificially drive up prices.

Letterboxd has massively facilitated love of classic & arthouse films among young people. To the degree that we have a thriving culture of cinema, it’s largely because of this website. It’s one of the few things monied interests haven’t ruined. Selling it would be a disaster.
