CZ：If we launched a PUMP platform on BNB, I'd be in deep trouble
During an interview with the threadguy channel on October 11, 2025, Binance founder CZ @cz_binance was asked if BNB could defeat Solana and lead the meme coin market. CZ stated that blockchains are not simply in direct competition, noting that Solana made a phenomenal comeback after being severely hit by the FTX collapse. Under the Biden administration, utility tokens faced lawsuits for being classified as securities, whereas meme coins dodged regulation by claiming "no value."
CZ remarked, "At that time, players on Solana basically stopped caring about all that, with the overall market leaning towards a pump-and-dump state," which led to the launch of the PUMP platform to capitalize on the meme frenzy, while Binance was battling US SEC lawsuits.
CZ frankly admitted that if the BNB ecosystem also had a platform called PUMP back then, "I would definitely face a lot of scrutiny," making a similar model impossible. Currently, his focus remains on BNB Chain.
