Dolly Parton’s 80th birthday is on January 19, 2026! To celebrate, we will be posting one post per incredible decade of Dolly’s life with an interesting fact about her from that decade.
Before Dolly was the Queen of Country, she was a true Smoky Mountain daughter born in the heart of Sevierville.
When Dolly was born on January 19, 1946, her family lived in a one-room cabin on the banks of the Little Pigeon River. Money was so scarce that her father, Lee, paid the doctor who delivered her with a sack of cornmeal!
You can visit a replica of this very cabin at Dollywood to see where the magic truly began.

This is your nudge to start chasing waterfalls in the Smokies this year.
Did you know that Cades Cove is home to one of the most powerful waterfalls in the Smokies?
Abrams Falls may only stand 25 feet tall, but the sheer volume of water rushing over the edge is a sight (and sound!) to behold. Located about halfway through the Cades Cove Loop, this 5-mile roundtrip hike takes you through lush forests and right to the edge of this natural wonder.

🍁Communities surrounding GSMNP are open to welcome fall visitors. Come see us!
🌲Great Smoky Mountains National Park IS still accessible, although some services (such as restroom cleaning and garbage pickup) are currently stopped. Some popular parts of the park (like Cades Cove) are currently closed. Campgrounds are still open and honoring reservations. Check out nps.gov/grsm/index.htm for up-to-date info.
🍂Community governments surrounding the park are working on a plan to fully reopen GSMNP during the government shutdown. As soon as that’s approved, we’ll let you know!
