AKBAYAN WELCOMES JINGGOY ARREST ORDER: JUSTICE FOR THREE GENERATIONS ROBBED Akbayan Party welcomes the issuance of the arrest warrant against Senator Jinggoy Estrada in the non-bailable plunder case as a necessary step toward accountability. We call for its immediate implementation and his imprisonment, as a crucial move toward justice for three generations of Filipinos robbed of public resources that should have gone to education, healthcare, housing, disaster resilience, and decent livelihoods. Estrada is a recidivist in corruption controversies, repeatedly implicated across different administrations and eras. Having previously been charged, arrested, and jailed in other corruption-related cases, he stands as a symbol of entrenched elite plunder and impunity. This development affirms a basic principle: no public official is beyond the reach of justice, and public funds must serve the people, not private gain. We urge the Sandiganbayan to reject any appeal aimed at delaying or suspending the warrant’s execution. We also call on the Office of the Ombudsman, the Department of Justice, and the courts to pursue all credible corruption cases without fear or favor against other implicated officials in both the Senate and the House. All those found liable must be properly investigated, charged where warranted, and convicted and imprisoned in strict observance of due process. Lastly, Akbayan warns the Senate leadership under Alan Peter Cayetano not to interfere in this matter, the way that it did with the execution of justice against wanted fugitive Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa. Cayetano must stop using the Senate as a haven for fugitives, accused plunderers, and mass killers.
