@reformexposed I'm astounded that everyone working in public services doesn't get a DBS check???? They have access to information regarding vulnerable people, kids, finance..... yet volunteers in many services have to have a DBS check!

Reform UK Councillor Paul Donaghy was a school governor but had to give it up because he declined to do a DBS clearance. Who thinks Councillors should do a DBS check as standard? In some councils it’s mandatory, let’s make that nationwide.

@reformexposed It's usually reliant on having unsupervised access. If you make everyone have one, it will delay the process for those who really need them. I can't see any reason why a councillor or governor would need one.

@JohnRentoul @Dannythefink They are just the posh protest party. They are progressive until the results come anywhere near them. Their record in government was also terrible.

@DeborahMeaden @sharrond62 They won't re-run elections. They will be for different authorities. We don't know yet what they will be. Oddly, no one has asked us if we want another local government reorganisation.

@sharrond62 Nigel Farage has just cost the councils who requested a delay until next year MILLIONS when they have to re-run the council elections. £64m that should have been spent on its constituents.

Remember this - @Nigel_Farage with egg on his face over his posturing about postponed local elections . £63 million to be wasted holding local elections in May 2026 and being repeated in May 2027. Candidates elected in 2026 will have to stand stand again in 2027.

Council Elections were never cancelled. They were postponed due to reconstruction of boundaries like the Conservatives did in 2021. But it’s being framed by twats as Labour trying to cancel elections. No it was about saving money then and now. Are we so fucking thick?

Anthropic should move to London. Or, at least, dual-list in London, with a significant presence here. Here's why: 1. Anthropic is spiritually British. Their philosopher-in-residence, Amanda Askell, is Scottish, and Jack Clark (cofounder) is English, as are many other staff. Askell would be further away from Elon Musk in London. 2. Unlike other US labs, Anthropic cares more about safety, risks and good regulation. Compared to the EU, Britain's AI regulation is more focused on safety (rather than "ethical AI") and growth-oriented. 3. It's not good for the world that all the frontier labs (excl. DeepMind, sort of) are US-based, and therefore subject to the whims and potential control of whoever is in the White House. If AGI happens, do you want Trump controlling it? 4. Britain desperately needs a stake in the post-AI economy. AI could replace much of our services sector could be at risk from AI. Our energy is too expensive for data centres or manufacturing. But we have talent, AI expertise (e.g. AISI) and global reach. The solution? Give British people a capital stake in frontier labs. 5. Anthropic wants to expand its AI for science work, where the UK is a global leader. As part of the Oxford-Cambridge growth corridor, HMG should co-fund the world's biggest AI for science campus near London, with Anthropic as the anchor funder & tenant. The UK government should do everything it can to get Anthropic to move. We are spending £500m on Sovereign AI, to support "national champions". Instead, the British state could be an early shareholder in a newly-London listed Anthropic.

@Clainy6 They won't be the same councils. We don't even know what the new councils will look like. Southend were going ahead with elections anyway; running them in some areas and not others shows it was not a principled decision but rather opportunism.

In 2021 the Tories cancelled 247 by elections but that was okay and certainly not anti democratic. It is all a load of bollocks.

@keiranpedley I suspect that Reform support is higher, a 'shy Reform' effect. I agree that the Labour support is outstanding for such an incompetent government. They are truly shocking.
