@OgawaBurukku @nemu_asahi lots of Japanese mangaka stopped working at that time too due to trauma. After March 11th during the rest of the year, editors/tanto were different, I mean when I met them too. So their priority was to rebuild/fix the Japanese side before thinking about foreigners, I guess..

I had the tantou, but redoing the neemu was not my issue, at least not for Japanese. It was not hard at all for my editor to change something, but my Japanese was really good and there were only minor mistakes. But it was hard to get recruited. I was a “risk” by being foreign.

That's why a lot of foreign mangaka who got scouted by Japanese editors for their drawings/artstyle can't land a series or even a oneshot because they can't master the nemu (Japanese style), even with the Japanese editor who is their tanto. That's a shame, because even if I think what you say is right, I'm not sure at all that a foreign mangaka would be scouted for his/her manga if his/her artstyle/drawings is shit but his/her nemu is good. Not at a big henshuubu at least. They will always prioritize "good" (the kind they want, that sells well) artstyle over nemu for a newbie without results/pro experience. If the manga has a lot of Japanese readers, even with "shitty" drawings, then it might be scouted. A Japanese mangaka will probably be scouted, but not a foreign one. IMHO. A foreign mangaka usually needs direction/retakes even for Japanese language, all the onomatopees etc. It's a real hassle for an editor. It's just a problem of "cost performance" for the editor, aka "how much hassle will it be for me for this project to begin to make money? What's the probability of this project to make money, for how much effort from me?". IMHO.

@nemu_asahi Ça n'empêche pas ceux qui se croient en brocante et qui voudront négocier des rabais de 90% :'D En vrai, quel que soit le prix qu'on fixe, y aura toujours des gens pour se plaindre (j'ai déjà vu des dramas pour des commissions à 20€) 😅

Si sur la durée, ça ne baisse pas, voire même au contraire ça augmente, ça veut dire qu'il y a de la demande et donc des gens prêts à payer ce prix. Malheureusement c'est comme ça, on ne peut pas souhaiter à un artiste qu'on apprécie de se sous-payer par égoïsme 💦

Si vous trouvez ça trop cher, allez voir ailleurs, c'est tout. Si vous trouvez un artiste qui propose des prix qui vous convienne, tant mieux pour vous. Si pour cet artiste là, c'est vraiment trop cher, il verra qu'il n'aura aucune commande et devra baisser ses tarifs.

@Marty_japan En vrai, je me souviens qu'il y a 10~20 ans en France, c'était déjà possible si: dans une petite ville, rdv en semaine (ceux qui bossent en bureau en semaine qui galèrent le plus à avoir un rdv), puis lunettes pas chère si tu prends sur un choix limité, verres sans option.

I really want foreign mangaka to be aware of one thing regarding these international contests of Japanese manga: most of them are held to find foreign mangaka who will be in charge of the drawings of a title, not the scenario (a Japanese author will be in charge). As explained in this article (Worldless Manga Contest by KADOKAWA), they are specifically looking for foreign mangaka able to adapt Japanese Light Novels into manga (isekai, fantasy settings etc.). It's not "bad" or "demeaning" or whatever to "just" be in charge of the drawings of a manga, but I think a lot of foreign mangaka participating in these contests think that they will be able to write freely their own stories and I just want them to be aware that it won't problably be the case, that's all... There are some that will be in charge of both, it's already the case, but most of them won't. That's not why they are so actively recruited for. Just, don't be surprised of the glass ceiling, accept the offers, prove that you can be in charge of both and they will give you a chance. Don't be stubborn, "It's all or nothing!" type of behavior, because you'll get nothing 99% of the time.
