Then I read about an incident in the UK that shook me. In early 2026, the police used Microsoft’s Copilot AI tool to draft an official report.
The AI didn’t just make a small mistake it inserted false information that didn’t exist in the verified facts. Because of that AI-generated inaccuracy, a group of Maccabi Tel Aviv football fans was wrongly banned from attending a match in Birmingham. The police had to issue a public apology, suspend the AI tool, and launch a full review.
This incident is a stark reminder: AI is only as reliable as the data it learns from. Unverified, hallucinated, or low-quality data doesn’t just produce errors on a screen, it affects real people, real decisions, and real lives.
