Elder's Meditation of the Day - March 19 "There's a deep wound in people - that they have been so cut off from the source of their being, their mother, their Earth Mother." -- Francis Story Talbott II (Medicine Story), WAMPANOAG When we are connected to the Earth Mother, or when we are clear on our purpose, we will feel connected and safe. We will feel love. When we are disconnected from the Earth Mother, or we don't know who we are or why we are, we will feel pain. It will be similar to a little child who has lost its Mother. We will hurt inside - we will be wounded within. If this happens to the whole community, the people will be very sad and lost. It will seem like there is death in the air. When this happens, it is time for ceremony and reconnection to God and Mother Earth. This is the time of prayer. Great Mystery, today, help me to stay connected to the Earth and to You, my Creator. The meditations are copyright of Coyhis Publishing and can also be found in the book, Meditations with Native American Elders: The Four Seasons Photo: Native American earthworks are found throughout Ohio and range from conical mounds to earthen walls and even animal effigies--like Serpent Mound in Peebles, Ohio. #Indigenous #NativeAmerican #SerpentMound #EarthMother

The Evening Before The Spring Equinox. Our megalithic sites, and sacred places of ancient stone circles and dolmens, are the sentinels and beacons to mark our arrival at the many milestones on our stellar pilgrimage. They stand for thousands of years, like antenna reaching up through ever changing skies, acting as watchtowers for new stars and constellations. And when star and stone align, the monuments speak, like birdsong announcing that a new day is here. But ancient texts and wisdom also tell us that the old stones frame something more subtle yet just as profound. Might the dawning light of new nebulae and constellations awaken parts of ourselves that hibernate for thousands of years like secret flowers in the earth? Hindu cosmology speaks of the grand cycle of The Yugas which say that our consciousness expands and contracts depending upon our closeness to certain constellations and starlight. This allows us to access the unseen spectrum of life that has always been existing around us, yet outside of our perception until that moment. As our entire solar system moves through its own seasons, wider senses within us are beckoned to become reborn. And the wheel turns again. (C.) David Halpin via Circle Stories. "HEKATE Today is the 29th lunar day (no moon) of Hekate. Goddesses of the door, key-holders, three-faced patroness of poisonous herbs and birthflowers. The goddess of moonlight and magic.... "Breaking the barrier to the unknown" in witchcraft typically refers to intentionally moving beyond the ordinary, everyday perception of reality into deeper mystical, spiritual, or hidden layers of existence. This involves overcoming internal or energetic obstacles that keep one separated from the unseen world—such as the realm of spirits, energies, ancestors, deities, the subconscious, or liminal spaces. In many witchcraft and pagan traditions, this barrier is conceptualized in a few key ways: ### 1. **The Veil Between Worlds** The "veil" is a common metaphor for the thin, energetic divide separating the physical (mundane) world from the Otherworld or spirit realms. "Breaking" or piercing it means deliberately accessing those realms rather than waiting for natural thinning periods (like Samhain, Beltane, or full moons). Practices include: - Scrying with mirrors, black bowls of water, or obsidian to glimpse beyond. - Trance induction through drumming, chanting, breathwork, or entheogens (where legal and safe). - Ritual journeying to meet guides, ancestors, or entities. ### 2. **Hedge Crossing / Hedge Riding** In hedgewitchery and traditional witchcraft, the "hedge" symbolizes the boundary (like a literal thorny hedge marking village edges in folklore). Crossing it involves spirit flight, soul travel, or shamanic-style journeys to the underworld, upperworld, or other liminal planes. This requires preparation like: - Protective grounding (rooting energy into earth). - Tools such as a staff, broom (for symbolic "flying"), or flying ointments (historically plant-based). - Building relationships with spirit allies or fetch-beasts (animal familiars/guides) to aid safe passage. ### 3. **Overcoming Personal/Internal Barriers** The "unknown" often manifests as personal fear, doubt, conditioning, or shadow aspects that block deeper practice. Fear of madness, loss of control, encountering malevolent forces, or confronting one's own darkness creates a self-imposed barrier. Breaking it involves: - Shadow work (journaling, meditation, or ritual confrontation of fears). - Banishing rituals to release limiting beliefs (e.g., cord-cutting, smoke cleansing, or candle spells focused on fear). - Gradual exposure through low-stakes magick (dream work, intuition exercises) to build trust in the process. ### 4. **Practical Methods to Approach It** - **Protection first**: Cast circles, set wards, carry protective items (e.g., iron, rowan, black tourmaline), or invoke guardians/deities. - **Grounding & centering**: Anchor in the body/physical world before venturing out to avoid becoming unmoored. - **Liminal timing & places**: Work at dawn/dusk, crossroads, thresholds, or during seasonal shifts when boundaries naturally weaken. - **Tools & techniques**: Drumming/rattling for trance, pathworking visualizations, sigil magick to open gateways, or offerings to gain permission/entry. In essence, this process is about courageously stepping into mystery, mystery, and direct experience of the hidden dimensions witchcraft often explores—transforming the unknown from something frightening into a source of wisdom, power, and connection. via George Davis Art: Keeper of the Sacred Flame by British writer and fantasy artist Everild-Wolfden. #FolkloreThursday #witchcraft #Occult #Otherworld
