Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is refusing to attend intensive Budget Committee sessions in the House of Councillors — fearing tough questions from opposition parties. Normally, Prime Ministers dedicate around 30 hours of concentrated questioning in Upper House budget deliberations.
Under Takaichi, it has been slashed to just 4 hours. The LDP has now rejected the opposition’s demand for a full intensive review on April 3. Negotiations collapsed, pushing final budget approval into the second week of April. This is an unprecedented snub to parliamentary accountability.
A Prime Minister who crafted the national budget with taxpayers’ money but refuses to explain it before the Diet? That’s dictatorship, not democracy. No previous Prime Minister has ever done this.
